Step 1

Preheat oven to 185°С / 365°F degrees.

Step 2

Make the dough. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, a pinch of salt, cumin, poppy seeds and sugar.

Step 3

Add unsalted butter and rub ingredients together by hand until you get buttery lumps.

Step 4

Add egg and sour cream. Knead dough until firm.

Step 5

Roll it out between two sheets of baking parchment into a layer 3 mm / 0.1 inch thick. Poke it with a fork multiple times and bake for 15 minutes until golden.

Step 6

Prepare the poppy seed sauce. Mix poppy seeds, milk, cinnamon powder and honey in a saucepan, and simmer for 5–10 minutes.

Step 7

Crumble the cooked flat cake into small pieces and serve in bowls with poppy seed sauce.

Step 8

Serve with hot milk.
