Both bananas and oats are wonderfully healthy ingredients, so when you combine them in one recipe, you’ll really get the ultimate breakfast. I know that mornings are usually busy and chaotic, and most of us can’t spend too much time in the kitchen, so I decided to come up with a couple of quick and easy breakfast ideas. I always try to have breakfast, because otherwise I know I might go overboard during lunch. So here are my few tried and true breakfast tips.
Three oat-and-banana breakfast ideas
- Let’s start with the simplest option – porridge with bananas. All you need to do is make a simple oat porridge, add a little butter and top it off with a few banana slices. And you don’t even need to use sugar or syrup in this recipe – the bananas are sure to sweeten up your porridge. In fact, you can also add some berries or nuts. But if you’re a real sweet tooth, you can always add a little honey on top.
- If you’re not a morning person, you can plan ahead and make banana oat cookies. Just mash up a banana, add about three tablespoons of oats and some chopped up dried apricots or dates. You can also add some nuts. Then mix everything to combine and arrange spoonfuls of the mixture on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for about 15 minutes at 180C. That’s it!
- Another great breakfast option is a banana oat smoothie. It’s really simple to make, and you can switch up the ratio of ingredients according to the taste and texture you like. I usually go with a cup of oats, one banana, one cup of milk and a few tablespoons of water. Blitz it all up in a blender and you’re good to go! Or, if you want something a little sweeter, you can also add a little honey.
And now let’s talk about my favorite oat breakfast recipe – the banana oat pancakes.

Oat pancakes with bananas aren’t just a great breakfast idea, they’re also a wonderful snack for any time you’re feeling peckish. They’re a great source of fibers, different types of protein, vitamin B, calcium, selenium and other vitamins and minerals. If you’re lactose intolerant, you can use lactose-free milk, and if you’re trying to cut out sugar, you can make a sugar-free version of these pancakes. And they’ll still be sweet enough thanks to the bananas!

Follow The Directions

In a mixing bowl, combine the oats and warm milk. Let rest for about 20 minutes, so that the oats soak up the liquid a little bit. Meanwhile, peel a banana and mash it with a pinch of salt. Add the mashed banana to the oat mixture. Whisk the egg and add it to the mixture.

Combine the sugar, flour and baking powder. Add them to the egg and oat mixture and mix well so that all of the ingredients are combined.

Heat up the sunflower oil in a skillet and fry the pancakes for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden. Transfer each pancake to a paper towel to soak up the excess oil. Serve with honey.
